The purpose of the Wellington Parent Association is to provide the school community with a supportive and inclusive organization that welcomes all parents and coordinates events, projects and activities. We want to give parents an active role in students’ academic and non-academic activities to help establish strong relationships between the home and school.
Through the WPA, parents can become more effective partners in their child’s education and school, and find a supportive network for themselves.
The WPA invites parents to become involved in an open and connected community that embodies the school philosophy. There are many opportunities for parents to be engaged in the life of the School. All parents are encouraged to choose ways to participate that correspond to their interests and availability, and are in concert with the needs and goals of the School.
The effectiveness of the Wellington Parent Association is directly proportionate to the involvement of every parent. Each family has a place in the community, and in great measure Wellington has grown and flourished because of the vision, leadership, and commitment of its parent volunteers.
The Wellington Parent Association (WPA) coordinates volunteers in the following areas. Your service in any of these areas will have a positive impact on the school. Thank you in advance for your time and talents. Email
development@wellington.org for more information or to join WPA.
Room Parents help plan Lower School classroom parties. They organize food and drink provided by class parents as well as plan activities for the parties.
Lunch Bunch gives parents the opportunity to sit at the head of their child’s lunch table in lieu of a faculty member. It is a wonderful time to share lunch with your child and their classmates.
Faculty/Staff Appreciation is held each spring and is a weeklong tribute to our wonderful faculty and staff. Events are held each day of the week culminating in a big thank-you luncheon on Friday. Volunteers are needed for the daily tributes as well as the luncheon.
The Lower School Pancake Breakfast is for Lower School students, family members and teachers to join together to celebrate fall and our new and old friends in the Lower School by having breakfast together. It is a great event for parents of Lower School students to get to know each other.
The Father/Daughter Dance is a formal event that is attended by Wellington fathers and daughters. This event is planned by a group of father volunteers (along with behind-the-scenes help from mothers.) It is a very memorable time for both dads and daughters.
The Mother/Son Event is a less formal, fun-filled evening enjoyed by Wellington mothers and their sons. Volunteers secure the location, plan the food and promote the event.
Archives Management involves sorting and organizing the many items in the Wellington archives. Items include yearbooks, newspaper clippings, trophies, school-spirit wear, pictures and many other items.
Library Volunteers are responsible for helping students find and check out books. They also check in books and return them to the shelves. Library volunteers may assist the librarians in their duties as needed. Additional help is required during the Book Fair in November for those parents who are unable to volunteer on a regular basis.
Emporium Volunteers are needed to man three 1-hour shifts per day in the school store. Volunteers will help sell Wellington logo items and light food and drink.
Alliance Liaisons meet once a month with school administrators to foster the relationship between Wellington families and the school. You will represent all the parents of your child’s grade.
Founders Day is an annual event, typically held in the fall, to honor Wellington’s founders. The event is an evening filled with fun, food, games and inflatables provided by SuperGames. Volunteers are needed for decorations, setup, registration, game supervision and cleanup after the event.
The Mothers Dinner is a Wellington tradition that brings together moms from every grade to honor the mothers of graduating seniors. This special event is well attended by moms of students of all grade levels. Parent volunteers organize the event and need helpers to assist in the ordering of table decorations, prizes for the raffle and small gifts for mothers who attend. They also need volunteers to sell raffle tickets at the event.
Lost and Found Volunteers assist in organizing and returning the misplaced items to their owners.
Parent Connectors create all kinds of ways to establish friendships within the Wellington community. Each year, families sign up to be the Parent Connector for their child’s class. They come up with events, then invite their fellow parents to get together. Events can be anything, but some recent get-togethers have included ice-cream tastings, apple picking and themed house parties.
