Academic Integrity in Middle School

POSTED BY The Wellington School ON October 5, 2017 IN

Eighth graders participated in an interactive lesson on academic integrity as they explored what constituted dishonesty and brainstormed best practices to avoid it. Students reviewed a number of scenarios to determine if each was an acceptable behavior, academically dishonest, or fell in a gray area, depending on the circumstances.

In small group discussion, students devised a list of reasons why someone might compromise their integrity, including pressure to perform or lack of preparation. Classes then worked on a challenge to find the plagiarism in a paper before taking a pledge to hold themselves and their peers to a high level of academic integrity as well as be role models for younger middle school students.
