Middle school geometry students built a 6 foot tall pyramid for the lower rotunda of the The Abbott Family Learning Center. Math teacher Michelle Neely said, “the ultimate hope for it is for Little Jags to be able to crawl through it.”
In order to accomplish their goal, students constructed 256 smaller pyramids to make one large structure by working assembly line-style while chatting and singing about math and Sierpinski, the Polish mathematician namesake of the fractal. The project involved considerable planning, calculating, and organization.
Be sure to stop by the Abbott Family Learning Center to see the fantastic fractal!
