Learning Latin in Lower School

POSTED BY The Wellington School ON November 16, 2017 IN

It was pure magic when Head of School Robert Brisk P ‘13 ‘15 taught 3rd graders a little Latin. On a recent visit, students learned the Latin roots to many of their favorite Harry Potter spells. For instance, accio, meaning to fetch or summon in Latin, is used as a summoning charm in the world of wizardry. The Confundus Charm comes from confundo, or confuse. Students were also fascinated to learn video means I see. It was a fun introduction to the classical world through the lens of modern childhood.
