Lower School Builds Community

POSTED BY The Wellington School ON May 10, 2018 IN

Third graders learned from Upper Arlington City Planner Chad Gibson about what makes a community. Explaining to students that his primary job was to “make sure the land we have is used in the best way,” Gibson introduced the concept of zoning, or ensuring that land use is efficient for residential, industrial, commercial, and mixed-use. With three million people expected to be living in Columbus by 2050, meeting the public demand for water, food, and transit will be vital for city planners. Gibson also stressed “sustainability is important now to make sure we have clean air and water.”
