Learning lifelong lessons beyond Wellington.
We offer middle school students many opportunities to extend beyond the classroom and their own perceptions to create new connections and understandings. These opportunities include field trips, service learning experiences, skiing, and forming relationships with differing members of the community.
The middle school offers unique field trips such as kayaking at metro parks and monotheism exploration at local churches, mosques, and temples. Students also trek to art museums, OSU insectary, and local design firms.
Wellington 5th and 6th grade girls work with students from the OSU Honors and Scholars Center in Girls Circles. These small, facilitated groups of girls meet to talk about important issues such as relationships with peers and body issues. The OSU students have been trained and are certified in the Girls Circle Project that empowers young women and assists them in maneuvering through challenges.
All middle school students spend five winter Mondays learning a sport for life — skiing and/or snowboarding — as part of the middle school physical education curriculum. These days are built into our school year, and provide students with the opportunity to learn and hone new skills in the company of their friends and teachers.
