Wellington Announces New Head of School

Wellington Announces New Head of School

The Wellington School Board of Trustees is excited to announce Dr. Jeff Terwin as our new head of school for the 2019-2020 school year. Dr. Terwin currently serves as our associate head of school and head of upper school. He will assume the new position on July 1, 2019. In the meantime, Robert Brisk will continue acting in his role of head of school building on his momentum of elevating Wellington as a community leader.

New Leadership Means New Opportunities and New Ideas

During his tenure here at Wellington, Dr. Terwin has been an instrumental part of cultivating our forward-thinking mission to uncover each student’s maximum potential. He has provided invaluable contributions to our school, such as:

  • Designing a groundbreaking curriculum that allows students to dive deeply into areas of personal interest through independent science or humanities research.
  • Sparking the creation of the Global Citizenship Certificate and WISE program to broaden the worldview of our students.
  • Developing, along with Director of Technology John Kruzan, a dynamic assessment tool for teachers to receive real-time feedback on their performance in the classroom.
  • Adapting educational models based on cutting-edge scientific research on childhood development.

We couldn’t be more grateful to have such an ideal candidate for our new head of school. A graduate of Michigan State University, Dr. Terwin earned his Ph.D. at the University of Maryland. He has previously held leadership positions at Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury, Connecticut and North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, Illinois. Clearly qualified for the role, Dr. Terwin has displayed important strategic alignment with the goals and mission of our school. His academic and professional background have already set him on the path for success as head of school.

Our School Continues To Move Forward in Our Community
During the course of the 2018 – 2019 school year, Dr. Terwin will work closely with Brisk to ensure a seamless transition. Their close working relationship as associate head of school and head of school makes this succession plan uniquely suited and ensures that no momentum is lost while making even greater strides as a school in the future.

Brisk unified and expanded the capabilities of our school through his innovative thinking and genuine engagement with our students, parents, and faculty. Under his leadership, we’ve attained significant milestones, such as achieving financial stability, elevating our position in receiving teacher engagement grants, developing the Wellington Engagement Index as well as experiencing record-breaking student enrollment. We’re honored to have had a leader like him at our school, and are excited to announce his next venture in the coming months.

Brisk has moved Wellington forward, and now Dr. Terwin will further elevate our school community to new heights.
