The league welcomes players of all experience levels, including children new to organized basketball. Modified rules and meaningful playing time help every athlete build skills, learn the game, and compete in an age-appropriate environment.

The Wellington Youth Basketball League is open to boys and girls in grades 1–4. Players do not need to attend Wellington.

Divisions include:

• Grades 1–2 boys
• Grades 1–2 girls
• Grades 3–4 boys
• Grades 3–4 girls 

All divisions play 5-on-5 full-court basketball with age-appropriate equipment and modified rules designed to help young athletes learn the game. 

Players may register individually and request to play with one other player. Families may also register with a full team of at least eight players. All full-team entries must have an established coach. 

Grades 1–2

Players practice for 30 minutes before a 25-minute game. Games use 8.5-foot baskets and a 27.5-inch basketball.

Grades 3–4

Players practice for 50 minutes on Saturday mornings and compete in 30-minute games on Sundays. Games use 9.5-foot baskets and a 28.5-inch basketball.

All practices and games are held at The Wellington School.

Volunteer parent coaches are an important part of the Wellington Youth Basketball League. Head coaches receive a 50% discount on one player's registration, and all coaches complete a background check through The Wellington School.

A volunteer coaches' clinic is being considered for the 2027 season. Additional information will be shared with registered coaches as plans are finalized.
