Professional Development Workshops

You’ve created curriculum maps, but have you ever designed an engagement map? An engagement map is a course-based inventory of the strategies and pedagogies that actively foster student engagement. While a curriculum map outlines the what of a course, including its content, skills, and learning objectives, an engagement map highlights the how and why of the teaching and learning experience.

In this hands-on workshop, educators will develop individual engagement maps that reflect the specific practices they use to engage students in their classrooms. Following the creation of individual maps, participants will collaborate in teams to examine patterns of engagement across grade levels and departments, identifying alignment, revealing gaps, and uncovering opportunities to deepen engagement throughout the curriculum. The session will conclude with teams setting and prioritizing engagement goals for their courses and programs. Participants will leave with clear, actionable plans to enhance student engagement and enrich the overall learning experience at their schools.

In this interactive, hands-on workshop, educators will examine student engagement in their classrooms through a structured data inquiry process. This workshop is grounded in your school’s Wellington Engagement Index (WEI) data, ensuring that the learning experience is both relevant and personalized. Participants will use their data to explore patterns of student engagement and identify areas for growth. Through guided reflection and facilitated discussion, educators will develop research-based strategies and pedagogical approaches that promote deeper, more meaningful engagement. By the end of the session, participants will leave with a set of actionable, student-centered practices aligned to their classroom context and informed by both evidence and data.
