A Bold Leap Campus Master Plan
Campus Master Plan
Wellington's Bold Leap Strategic Plan sets an ambitious course as we look toward the School's fiftieth year. It is grounded in a simple belief: standing still is not an option. A central part of that work is a comprehensive campus master plan that ensures our physical spaces reflect and support the excellence, creativity, and ambition of Wellington’s educational vision. Beginning in May 2026, Wellington will begin construction of a new Upper School entrance and the renovation of the Fishinger Road side of campus.
Campus Master Plan
Our comprehensive campus master plan ensures our physical spaces reflect and support the excellence, creativity, and ambition of Wellington’s educational vision. Designs for these new spaces have been shaped by faculty, student, and Board vision committees, whose thoughtful and creative contributions have been invaluable and will continue to guide this work.
New Upper School Entrance
We will demolish the original 1918 building on Fishinger Road and create a new Upper School entry with additional parking, easing pressure on Reed Road parking and car line.
State-of-the-Art Classrooms
Approximately 20,000 square feet of currently unused space will be revitalized and renovated into state-of-the-art Upper School learning spaces.
Expanded Middle School
Upper School renovations will expand dedicated space for our growing Middle School on the second floor of the academic building.
Reimagined Arts Spaces
We will reimagine arts spaces, improving the Blanchard Performing Arts Center and upgrading band, choir, strings, drama, and visual arts spaces, including the addition of needed practice rooms.
Why This Work Is Needed Now
Wellington's program has never been stronger. Our enrollment is growing, our arts are flourishing, and the teaching and learning happening across campus every day reflects the very best of what an independent school can be. But our spaces have not kept pace — and for Wellington to continue to grow and fulfill its mission, that has to change.
Our Upper School students and teachers deserve academic and community spaces that reflect the ambition and innovation of our program. Current classrooms do not match the level of teaching and learning happening inside them, and with anticipated enrollment growth, the division will exceed its footprint within a few years.
The Middle School has outgrown its home and currently occupies four Upper School classrooms. Without additional dedicated space, the division cannot continue to grow or provide the small-group instruction and personalized support that define the Wellington experience.
Our arts programs are flourishing — and they deserve facilities to match. The Blanchard Performing Arts Center can no longer accommodate the size of our audiences, the theatre lacks essential backstage functionality, and music and strings spaces are overdue for modernization. Visual arts spaces need expansion, including gallery areas to proudly showcase student work.
Every weekday, 750 students and 150 adults rely on a single driveway to access campus. Arrival and dismissal create daily challenges for the entire community that a second entrance on Fishinger Road will meaningfully address.
The original building on Fishinger Road, constructed in 1918, has been closed off for a number of years. Its condition no longer reflects the excellence happening across campus — and its site holds the key to unlocking the transformation we need.
Approximately 20,000 square feet of space on campus currently sits unused and unusable. This master plan reclaims and reimagines that space, ensuring every corner of our campus contributes to student learning.
Campus Master Plan Updates
