Dear Wellington Families,
I am pleased to share some exciting leadership updates that will take effect for the 2026–27 school year.

Last year, Shelley Brown was appointed Assistant Head of School for Academics in addition to her role as Head of Early Childhood and Lower School. Shelley has already made a tremendous impact through this all-school academic work, with a focus on guiding and strengthening curriculum design across divisions and ensuring our academic program continues to challenge and engage Wellington students. I am pleased to support Shelley's continued growth as she steps fully into the Assistant Head of School for Academics role, effective July 1.

Also on July 1, our current Assistant Head of Early Childhood and Lower School, Nicole Franks, will step into the role of Head of Early Childhood and Lower School. Since joining the Wellington community this past summer, Nicole has meaningfully shaped the ECLS experience through her expertise in curriculum development, teacher mentorship, student and family support, and thoughtful program leadership. She brings more than 20 years of experience in early childhood and lower school education and holds a master’s degree in child development from Erikson Institute in Chicago. Her deep investment in our community and clear commitment to academic excellence position her beautifully for this role.

Alongside Nicole, current Early Childhood Specialist Ellen Rhomberg will step into the role of Assistant Head of Early Childhood and Lower School. Ellen brings more than a decade of experience in early childhood education and leadership and holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction leadership from the University of Memphis. Over her six years at Wellington, she has served as a teacher, learning specialist, and lacrosse coach, and she remains deeply engaged in professional learning and advocacy beyond the classroom. Her expertise, leadership, and commitment to young learners make her well suited for this expanded role.
I am proud to see these trusted and familiar Wellington leaders assume expanded roles in service of our school. These transitions reflect thoughtful planning, and Wellington is fortunate to have educators who grow with the school and are prepared to lead it forward. I am confident that Shelley, Nicole, and Ellen will continue to advance our mission with clarity, stability, and purpose.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership and, as always... Go, Jags!
Eliza McLaren, Head of School
