April is National Financial Literacy Month, a time to celebrate the power of financial education. Wellington’s financial literacy course gives students essential skills for managing their financial futures.
Financial literacy is a required course at Wellington, designed to help students meet the challenges of the 21st century. Through real-world scenarios and hands-on activities, students build a strong foundation in managing banking, savings, credit, investments, taxes, and career planning. The course empowers students to make informed financial decisions and prepares them for future success.
The experience culminates in the Financial Literacy Final Portfolio, where students step into the shoes of a 26-year-old living independently in the city and career of their choice. Using median salary data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, students create a zero-based budget and plan for everything from rent and insurance to entertainment and daily living expenses. By the end of the course, students leave Wellington ready to take charge of their financial lives.
