The first JagsConnect upper school event of the year brought together 9th and 10th grade students for a kickoff session on career exploration and purpose, led by Liz Kazemi ’17. The program opened with a story of connection and mentorship featuring Ani Dunn P ’28, a JagsConnect volunteer, and Jake Goudie ’22.
Matched through the JagsConnect platform over the summer, Jake and Ani connected around his interest in the consumer-packaged goods industry and her role as an executive recruiter at Korn Ferry. Their experience highlighted the long-term value of JagsConnect as a tool for professional growth and community support.
“JagsConnect was a great place to hear real career stories from people like Ani who can give advice to younger generations who may be unsure about what their career could look like,” said Jake. “As a college student, it gave me clarity and motivation for what my future could look like and reassured me that I’m already taking the right steps toward success. It’s also a great way to build connections with the amazing Jaguar family.”
Ani echoed the value of the program. “This is an extremely easy way to help our current students and recent Wellington alumni maximize their opportunities as they navigate early career decisions,” she said. “Connecting with Jake has been my immense pleasure. He’s done everything right so far…I expect he’s going to go far.”
Following their remarks, Kazemi guided students through a reflective seminar on the iterative nature of career exploration. Drawing on results from a pre-session career interest survey, students identified strengths and potential interests, beginning their journey of discovering purpose and possibility.
The session marked a meaningful start to this year’s JagsConnect programming, reminding students that career exploration is not just about planning for the future but also about discovering purpose, building confidence, and strengthening connections within the Jaguar community.
