This week, members of the Class of 2026 took a meaningful step in their college application journey during Wellington’s Supplemental Essay Workshop. Held on campus and led by Director of College Counseling Emily Berty and Assistant Director Ivy Mitchell, the two-day event offered students a chance to organize their supplemental prompts, begin drafting, and receive personalized, real-time feedback.
Working in small groups and one-on-one, students received comments like “which of your experiences is most relevant to this prompt,” “you should think about leaning into your leadership experience,” “this idea needs more explanation,” and “rephrase this to make it more compelling.” It wasn’t about writing the perfect essay on day one. It was about thinking critically, making connections, and telling their story in a way that feels true to them.
In the quieter pace of summer, with the pressure of the school year still weeks away, students had the space to focus and reflect. The workshop is just one example of how Wellington’s upper school makes the college application process feel personal, supported, and manageable, backed by the expertise of counselors who know our students well.
