New Honors Humanities Course Explores Hemingway Through Opera

Inspired by the original ancient Greek philosophical school founded by Aristotle, LYCEUM is a new interdisciplinary Honor Humanities extension program designed for 7th and 8th grade students who love to think deeply, write purposefully, explore connections across history and literature, and engage in meaningful discussion.

As an extension of their studies, LYCEUM students took in an avant-garde opera adaptation of “The Old Man and the Sea” at Mershon Auditorium for a memorable night of art and inquiry.

“Students were engaged, patient with the unfamiliar, and full of smart questions afterward.,” shared Middle School Humanities and Writing Support Specialist Mason Roulston P ’31 ’34. “Yes, opera. Yes, Hemingway. No harpoons required, just open minds.”
