Dear Wellington Community,
As I begin my first year as Director of Athletics and Physical Education, I’m thrilled to return to the school where my educational journey first began — right here at Wellington as a prekindergarten student.
Since then, my path has taken me through nearly every level of athletics and education, as a coach, PE teacher, athletic administrator, and, most recently, as a student life project manager at Vanderbilt University. I’ve seen firsthand how sports and physical education can shape character, build confidence, and bring people together. That belief is personal to me, rooted in my own experience as a high school independent school student athlete and a Division I track and field student-athlete at High Point University.
I’m especially grateful to Lindsey Smith for her outstanding leadership and to the entire athletics and PE team for their partnership during this transition. It’s a privilege to lead a program where every student, from our Little Jags to our varsity athletes, is encouraged to grow, compete, play, and lead with purpose.
I’m excited to build strong relationships with our student-athletes, families, and coaches while continuing to foster a positive, connected athletic culture. This fall, I look forward to creating engaging game day experiences, increasing student involvement, and supporting the growth of each program. I’m especially passionate about helping students discover a sport or physical activity they enjoy and can carry with them for life. Together, we’ll continue to make Wellington Athletics a place of pride, purpose, and belonging.
Thank you for welcoming me (back) to Wellington. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and cheering on our Jaguars together.
Go Jags,
Nick Williams, Ed.D.
