Recognizing a Transformative Gift and Announcing the Kindergarten of the Future

Dear Wellington Community,

I am excited to announce that we will begin a complete renovation of the Rick O’Hara Room (ROHR) this summer, creating a brand new purpose-built home for our kindergarten program.

The reimagined ROHR space will feature three kindergarten classrooms, a flexible learning area, and direct access to the West Playground, reinforcing Wellington’s commitment to movement and outdoor exploration. Designed with input from our early childhood educators and the Learning Environments Committee, the new space prioritizes creativity, collaboration, and student-centered learning. It will serve as a bridge between early childhood and lower school—purposefully crafted for students at a peak age of discovery. Learn more about the new space.

I want to express deep gratitude to Board Chair Jim Croft P ’17 ’20 ’22 and his wife Michelle Croft P ’17 ’20 ’22 whose transformative gift of $500,000 allows the project to move forward immediately—creating an environment where the school’s youngest learners can thrive and supporting future building updates identified in the soon-to-be-shared strategic plan.

This renovation is a future-focused investment in our students and teachers, and it is the first step in a significant campus upgrade that will take shape over the coming years. Jim and Michelle’s generosity allows us to bring our vision for early learning to life. As the kindergartners move into their new classrooms, the Little Jags will move from the Fishinger Road side of the building into the 2020 early childhood wing, enhancing their learning environment and bringing all of early childhood together. This move will also allow us to envision a campus master plan with a new entrance on Fishinger Road. Look for an exciting announcement about that next fall.

Thanks to the Crofts’ generosity, we’re well on our way to meeting the project’s expense, but additional support will ensure we can bring this meaningful project to life while preserving school resources for the future. If you would like to join the Crofts in support of this vital project, please do so here.

Thanks for all you do for Wellington, and... Go, Jags!
