Senior Finn Basobas O’Carroll '26 made Wellington history this fall as the school’s first boys soccer athlete to be named State Player of the Year. In his debut season of high school play, Finn delivered an extraordinary campaign as a holding midfielder. At the time of his nomination, he led Wellington with 23 goals and 12 assists and had contributed a goal or assist in every critical match of the season. His consistency under pressure and his command of the midfield defined Wellington’s style of play.
The recognition reflects more than impressive numbers. After competing with the Columbus Crew Academy, Finn joined Wellington with humility and respect, integrating seamlessly into the team. His off-the-ball work, tactical awareness, and leadership strengthened the group and elevated overall performance. He modeled a selfless, team-first mindset that shaped both the culture and success of the program.
For Wellington, this award marks a meaningful milestone and underscores the growing strength of boys soccer. Finn’s achievement highlights the caliber of athletes who choose Wellington and the supportive environment that helps them develop as players and leaders.
Wellington is proud to celebrate this historic moment for Finley and for the program. Congratulations to Finn on an unforgettable season.
