CELEBRATION

Congratulations to the Wellington students honored with the College Board School Recognition Award. This new award celebrates academic excellence within each school community, with recipients ranking among the top 10 percent of Wellington’s PSAT/NMSQT test takers. Learn more

Wellington students have been recognized by College Board with AP Scholar Awards for their outstanding achievement on Advanced Placement Exams. Honors range from AP Scholar to AP Scholar with Distinction, reflecting exemplary college-level accomplishment across multiple subjects. Learn more

This summer, Molly Owens, middle school social studies, and Chris Robbins P ’17 ’22, upper school English, co-taught Marching Towards Justice: Civil Rights and Social Change, a three-week course for 15 juniors and seniors. Students spent the first week studying the Civil Rights Movement, then traveled through Atlanta, Tuskegee, Montgomery, Selma, Lowndes, and Birmingham to experience history where it happened. In their final week, students reflected on their learning and created a website to share their insights with the wider community. Explore their website.  

 

Erica Clark P ’28, director of student success K-12, joined Jennifer Farmer P ’35 on the “Faith Talks” podcast to share strategies for preventing summer learning loss and keeping kids engaged year-round. Listen here.

¡Hola! Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month  

Wellington’s ¡Hola! Hispanic Origin Latin American Parent Affinity Group is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15) with community events. Families are invited to join the Latino Heritage Month Parade on Saturday, September 13, and a free family movie night featuring “The Emperor’s New Groove” on Friday, September 26. Learn more 

 

Parent and Caregiver Coffee With the Head of School - September 23 

Join us on Tuesday, September 23, from 8:30-9:30 a.m., in the Doerschlag Den for coffee and conversation. Head of School Eliza McLaren will share school updates for the first trimester of the 2025-26 school year. We look forward to seeing you there! 

 

A Toast to Tomorrow - Parent & Caregiver Social on September 30

Join us Tuesday, September 30, from 6:30-8 p.m., in the Thomas Family Dining Room and Patio for an evening of connection and celebration. Engagement and Belonging Coffee - September 17  

Parents from all grade levels are warmly invited to join Latisha Humphries, director of community engagement and belonging, for coffee and conversation in the Doerschlag Den, Wednesday, September 17, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Together, we’ll share ideas and explore ways to strengthen our school community—through service, academics, and social opportunities. This is a space to bring your questions, your hopes, your ideas, and your vision for what’s possible. No registration is required—just come as you are! 

 

Founders Day - September 19

Upper School Student Council Mum Sale

The Upper School Student Council Mum Sale is underway! This year’s fundraiser features both premium greenhouse mums and festive fall-themed tin character pots (“Mum Buddies”). Proceeds support upper school class adventures, with the top-selling grades earning funds for trips and activities. The sale is a competition, so be sure to shop for your student’s grade: 9th/12th supporters (code 2A299B) or 10th/11th supporters (code 2A299C). Orders close Friday, September 12. Learn more about the sale. Mums will be available for pickup from 1-6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24.

ReWilding Wellington Volunteer Work Day - September 13

ReWilding Wellington is entering its fourth year! We'll be hosting family workdays this fall to remove amur honeysuckle and other invasive plants, and mulch around native trees and shrubs that students planted last spring beside our new walking path. The plantings will attract bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife students will study and enjoy. Join us for our next volunteer work day on September 13, from 9-10:30 a.m. OR 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Sign-up here

 

Parent Webinar Series Starts With Dr. Lisa Damour - September 25 

As part of our commitment to supporting families, Wellington is providing parents and caregivers with complimentary virtual access to the 2025-26 ISACS Parent Webinar Series. The series begins with Dr. Lisa Damour: School Skills—Setting Kids Up for Success on Thursday, September 25, from 7:30–8:30 p.m. Dr. Damour, a New York Times bestselling author and leading voice on adolescent development, will share strategies to help students manage emotions, adapt to challenges, and cope with stress effectively. Girls on the Run Registration Open

Registration for Girls on the Run is open until September 11. The season runs from the week of September 15 through November 17, with practices for 3rd and 4th grade girls on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:25-5 p.m., at Wellington. Questions? Contact Sharla Starker at starker@wellington.org.

Pre-Loved Apparel Sale - September 5  

Join the WPA on Friday, September 5, from 7:30-8:30 a.m., in C147. Proceed down the lower school hallway and up the steps. Then, follow the sign to turn right at the Alumni Commons. C147 is the old athletics training room. 

 

Save the Date: Heritage Festival - November 3 

The third annual Wellington Heritage Festival will once again bring the flags in the Thomas Family Dining Room to life. Families host tables that showcase their heritage, culture, or a special place from around the world, complete with food, dress, and traditions to share. Student involvement will be a focus this year, and details on hosting a table, volunteering, or purchasing tickets will be shared soon.

Athletic Tickets - HomeTown Ticketing

Wellington families are welcome to attend home athletic events free of charge. Before games begin, you will receive an email sharing more information about our ticketing platform and your unique household identification number, allowing access to your year-long family pass. The pass is good for four entries per event. If you have any questions, please contact athletics@wellington.org

Fall Sports Update

Upper School: 

Upper School Boys Soccer: 
The upper school boys soccer team is off to a 4-1-1 start and is undefeated in league play, including big wins against Grove City Christian (5-0), Harvest Prep (4-0), and Bishop Rosecrans (7-0).

Upper School Girls Soccer: 
The upper schools girls soccer team has been competitive in league matches this year, securing two ties on the road and scoring over three times as many goals as they did all last season! Leading the way for the girls is Madeline Weaver ’29 with three goals and Jeanie DeSantis ’26 with two goals. 

Upper School Boys Golf: 
The boys varsity golf team is picking up right where they left off last season, finishing 2nd and 1st in the first two MSL Tournaments, winning the FCA Tournament, and the Berne Union Invitational! They are also undefeated in dual matches this season. Keep an eye on this team as they are poised for great things! 

Upper School Girls Golf: 
The girls varsity golf team is 2-1 in dual and tri matches this season, and Emme Braunsdorf ’26 has started the year with a bang, finishing 7th and 8th in the first two MSL Tournaments while also being the match medalist twice! 

Upper School Girls Tennis: 
The girls tennis team started the year off with some big wins, including one against the #10 team in the state, Maumee Valley, 3-2.

Middle School: 

Middle School Golf: 
The middle school golf team is off to a great start with a 1-1 record in dual matches and recently dropped 11 strokes off their best team score in last week's UA Cup.

Middle School Cross Country: 
The middle school cross country team has come out of the gate HOT this season. Ben Austin ’30 has two meet wins, and this past weekend broke his own school record with a 10:28 two mile time! Emma Lumbley ’30 has a 1st and 2nd place finish this season in just two meets!

We are excited to introduce a new initiative called “Featured Competitions” for each athletic season. See the list below for this month’s upcoming featured competitions and their themes!: 

  • September 10: Upper School Girls Soccer vs. Grove City Christian at 5:30 p.m. Theme: Cookie and Baked Goods Night
  • September 18: Mini Founders Day, Middle School Boys Soccer at 5:15 p.m., Middle School Girls Tennis at 5:15 p.m., and Middle School Girls Soccer at 6:30 p.m. Theme: TBD
  • September 19: Founders Day, Upper School Girls Soccer at 5 p.m. vs. Bishop Rosecrans and Upper School Boys Soccer at 7:30 p.m. vs. Genoa Christian Academy. Theme: Neon and Glow Sticks
  • September 22: Upper School Boys Soccer vs. Grandview Heights at 5:30 p.m. Theme: TBD
