Zakiya ’29 and Zalika ’27 Obayuwana earned five medals at the regional NAACP ACT-SO competition, with Zalika receiving a Gold Medal in Original Essay to qualify for nationals. Wellington’s Science Olympiad team sent 13 students to the state competition at The Ohio State University, where Steven Huang ’27 and Phoebe Bong ’27 earned 5th place in the Chemistry Lab event. The team capped a standout season that included four first-place finishes and six total medals at regionals, marking the program’s first year competing with a full team.

Summer Starts at Wellington
Summer is almost here, and spots are filling quickly for Wellington’s Summer Program. From enrichment opportunities and academic courses to camps designed for creativity, exploration, and connection, the program gives students a chance to build new skills, make lasting memories, and spend the summer with friends old and new. Community Track Meet - May 17
Families of students in kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to join Wellington’s upper school track team for a community track meet on Sunday, May 17, from 5-7 p.m., at Hastings Middle School. Students may participate in events like the 100m dash, 400m dash, mile run, 4x100m relay, and long jump, racing alongside peers of similar ages, while parents are welcome to join the mile and relay. It’s a fun, low-pressure way to experience Wellington’s track program and connect as a community. Register here, as space is limited.

HOLI Celebration - May 15
The AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Parent Affinity Group invites you to celebrate the Holi festival of colors with them on Friday, May 15, from 3:45-5:30 p.m., at Wellington. Join us at the West Events Entrance, weather permitting, for some outdoor fun, including games, food ($), music, and colored powders. Dress in light colors and in clothing that you don’t mind possibly staining. Building access will be limited to the restroom only. Adult supervision is required for students Little Jags-grade 8. Join Wellington at Pride Parade on June 20
Please join GSA, alumni, and the LGBTQ+ Families Affinity Group on Saturday, June 20, for Stonewall’s Pride Parade. Last year’s parade was a fun community event, and we hope to extend the participation! The step-off is at 10:30 a.m., and more details will be sent closer to the parade. Spring Sports Update
Upper School:
Upper School Baseball: The baseball team is sitting at 6-6 and has seen tremendous play up and down the lineup, led by senior Will Bernard ’26, who is currently second in the state in home runs!
Upper School Girls Lacrosse: The girls lacrosse team is off to a 4-4 start and has had some huge career milestones: Dea Singh ’27 scored her 100th career goal, and Mariem Khallout ’27 made her 200th save!
Upper School Track and Field: School records have been falling left and right this season. Naomi Livits ’27 (59.57) and Solomon Graham ’27 (54.17) both broke the school records in the 400m, and the relay team of Samson Njoroge ’27, Blake Lewis ’26, Jasiri Dial ’28, and Solomon Graham ’27 (1:36.90) broke the 4x200m school record, as well!
Upper School Boys Tennis: The boys tennis team is sporting a 9-2 overall record and is undefeated in Mid-State League play. They are gearing up for sectionals with Abbott Arthur ’27 (#2 seed), Connor Kuttrus (#4 seed) ’28, and Taj Ruegsegger ’27 competing in singles, and the pairings of Tefari Gordon-Adams ’28 and Evan Quick ’29, and Ranvir Varma ’28 and Will Myers ’28 (#2 seed) competing in doubles. They will begin sectional play on May 12 at London High School.
Middle School:
Middle School Track and Field: More school records have been falling in the middle school, as well! Aubrey Jeter ’31 set new school records in the 200m hurdles (32.9) and the long jump (14’7”) and was a part of the 4x400m relay team with Emma Jane Lumbley ’30, Aubrey Jeter ’31, Alexis Wilhelm ’30, and Lena Well ’30 (4:38.11). Ben Austin ’30 also set the school record in the 1600 (4.54.58).
